The Department of Environment and Fisheries, under the Ministry of Natural Resources & Labour of the Government of the British Virgin Islands, seeks to manage the natural resources of the British Virgin Islands in a sustainable manner. It was formed specifically to address the growing environmental stresses that the British Virgin Islands are experiencing. The Department is responsible for all aspects of Natural Resources Management and is divided into five functional units each focusing on a particular aspect. These are:  

▪     The Fisheries Unit

▪     The Environmental Unit

▪     The Environmental Education Unit

▪     The Geographic Information Systems Unit

▪     The Administration Unit

The Department’s commitment to service includes working closely with Fishermen to manage the fisheries resources, monitoring the natural environment and wildlife, mapping the Territories natural resources, providing information on the environment to the public and developing policies and legislation for managing the natural environment.

In serving the Public, the Department of Environment and Fisheries pledges commitment, honesty and openness in relationships with staff and clients, diligence and responsiveness in dealing with all tasks at hand.

The standards of service that can be expected from the Department are: efficient and effective phone manners, providing the Public with accurate information, consideration of others views, effective practices in the administration of programs.

The Public is invited to give feedback at all times with regard to improving the standards of service, as well as to lodge complaints if necessary. Correspondence will be acknowledged and fully responded to within 30 days. If a complaint has not been dealt with satisfactorily, contact should be made with the Deputy Governor or His Excellency the Governor.
