Conservation & Fisheries Department - Monitoring Information
Monitoring Information PDF Print E-mail

The environmental monitoring protocol that has been developed within the Department of Environment & Fisheries has been established to comprehensively and systematically assess, manage, and provide information on the BVI’s terrestrial and marine environment as well as the activities that contribute toward the state of that environment within the confines of the BVI and the surrounding Caribbean region.

The Department of Environment & Fisheries sponsors several monitoring programs to better understand the fragile ecosystems of the BVI and also to determine the growing deterioration of the environment due too rapid development. With a clear picture drawn of the locations of the different ecosystems of the BVI, it is then possible to monitor representative habitat sites and critical areas. This helps in the overall evaluation of the effects of land developments and seaward activity and also helps to mitigate the effects of these activities.
